Charity Event! Lantern Festival - October 11, 2014 6-9pm
The Rosedale Lantern Festival was held at the Harvard Gulch Golf Course & Clubhouse on October 11, 2014. The event was a resounding success, exceeding our hopes let alone our expectations. We raised $2,800 in net proceeds from the event to benefit Urban Peak, a local non-profit serving homeless and at-risk young adults between the ages of 15 and 24. Learn more at www.urbanpeak.org. |

More than 200 neighbors attended the Rosedale Harvard Gulch Neighborhood Association’s inaugural charity Rosedale Lantern Festival on October 11. Thanks to all who came and made it a grand success!
The Harvard Gulch golf course was aglow with more than 150 lanterns hanging from the trees. Lanterns were made by artists, neighbors and school children. Kids of all ages walked the lantern trail with their hand held lanterns. Money was raised by charging adults $3 admission, selling refreshments, renting hand held lanterns and a silent auction.
Kids enjoyed free games, and music was graciously provided by Rosedale neighbors Kurt Jones and Krewe De Groove.
Thanks go out to our Premier Sponsors Campus Cycles and Porter Adventist Hospital, both longtime supporters of RHGNA. Additionally, thanks to generous donations from Rosedale businesses, Rosedale neighbors and employees of Baker Hughes, we raised $2,800 for Urban Peak! May 2014 General Meeting
Thank you to all our neighbors for getting involved and attending the meeting at the Harvard Gulch Golf Clubhouse. Below are some of the highlights. Please also check out 'Committees' page and the detailed updates posted on there.
Mary Shea from Porter Hospital announced a health program available for Rosedale residents. The program is focused on learning to live the 8 Essentials of Optimum Health. The program, Creation Health, will feature an online community, and hopes to provide recipes and exercise groups. If you are interested in learning more about the program, contact Mary at maryshea@centura.org or via phone at 303-778-5710.
Stacia, a Denver Park Ranger, informed the neighborhood there are 5 rangers available to address issues of safety and resource management. During park hours of 5am-11pm, please call 311 and ask for a park ranger to address any concerns about safety, animal protection, park rules, problems with picnic areas or bathrooms or other issues. After hours, please contact Denver Police. A list of park rules can be found here.
Greg Kaiser, Denver Parks and Rec, provided an update on the Harvard Gulch Irrigation project. The non-potable irrigation system has been installed. However, the park will continue to use potable water until Denver Water can deliver ditch water to the system - probably sometime in 2016. Resodding continues to repair areas that were damaged during the project. More details on our Committees page under Parks.
Nathan Batchelder, Aide to District 7 City Council Member Chris Nevitt, reminded citizens of standing neighborhood office hours. Neighbors are welcome to call ahead and make sure the Councilman will be present, but an appointment is not required. Councilman Nevitt is available at Kaladi Brothers on Evans the 3rd. Wednesday of every month at 6 p.m.
The Denver Waldorf School has purchased the former Denver Christian building and is set to close on the property on June 2nd.
A reminder that our 4th Annual Neighborhood Yard Sale takes place on June 21st and our Annual Picnic is scheduled for August.

Highlights:
District 3 Police Commander Montoya addressed our concerns about speeding traffic in the neighborhood. You can submit a "traffic complaint" by downloading a form from our SAFETY & SCHOOLS section on the COMMITEES page. Two new recruit classes are nearing their graduation dates - more officers on the beat! Currently four officers are assigned to Area 313, where Rosedale is located.
Greg Kaiser, Senior Park Planner, assured us that the Harvard Gulch Park irrigation project will be complete in time for Spring irrigation startup. A Forester has been monitoring the health of the trees during the construction.
Pat Kennedy, Engineering Supervisor of DPW, reviewed the city's street paving plan for Rosedale. This activity is tentatively planned for mid summer 2014. Yay! See details on the COMMITTEES page.
Jeff Fergot, Safeway Manager, thanked our neighbors for their participation and constructive comments during the lengthy planning process for the new gasoline station at Evans and Downing. Construction is set to begin in Spring with gas flowing in July.
Nathan Batchelder, Aide to District 7 City Council Member Chris Nevitt, promised to follow up on the concerns about mosquito breeding and flooding near the old city ditch near Ogden. Sign up to receive Mr. Nevitt's Monthly Newsletter by clicking on the "District 7 City Council" button on the NEIGHBORHOOD page.
Two more neighbors signed up to be on our Sustainability Steering Committee. For more information, refer to the article on our NEIGHBORHOOD & CITY INFO page.

Nearly 100 neighbors and friends gathered to enjoy camaraderie, share great food, win fantastic door prizes and socialize on a lovely cloudy day. Kiddos had a great time hoola- hooping, blowing bubbles, playing soccer, and taking a few whacks at some golf balls.
We very much appreciate our guests, and those who provided equipment, supplies, music and food (including Rafael Vargas of Zocalo Restaurant). |

Thanks to our neighbors for a great Open Gardens Tour!
|
We had a great turnout at our inaugural RHGNA Open Gardens Tour. Many of our neighbors were inspired by the inventive, sustainable, easy-maintenance, certified wildlife habitat, xeric, native plant, vegetable, perennial and water gardens on the Open Gardens Tour.
A HUGE thank you to DUG and CSU staff for volunteering their time on a weekend to guide us through their amazing gardens. We could not have done it without the gardeners who generously opened |
their gardens to and shared their knowledge with our neighbors. Thank you!
